Should I switch companies or stay and try to get promoted?

Hello,

I’m currently working at a Big 4 defense company and have an offer to switch to another one.

I had a director at my current company reach out to me and interview me for a section manager position but after two interviews I wasn’t selected. I’ve never been a manager before but it seemed like I would have been a perfect fit for the role.

Having said that, the failure has made me want to keep moving forward with my career. Should I stay at my company and keep looking internally or just take the other job offer with the other defense company?

The external job offer would only be a 7% raise and a $40,000 bonus ($27k after tax with a 2 year lockup period) non-management position if I join the other company.

Thank you for your responses!
