Setting boundaries while starting a BIG project?

[ad_1]

I recently became the hazardous waste manager at my lab. I have a lot to do. I’ve made a map of the facility and am going area by area. This is a secondary job and not my primary work.

I had someone trying to redirect me. I was clear that I have a plan and am happy to share it but don’t want to adjust it unless it is critical. I told her that I would absolutely reach out for her thoughts when I get to the area of her concern. This person has no oversight over me. She does have seniority and experience but works from home in a different department.

How do I handle this with tact? I have no deadlines on this project. I imagine the total project will likely take 8-10 months. I want to get this done without interference but also without offending people.
