How do I get an internal promotion? Didn’t get the last one I went for (F28)

Hi there,

I’m 28 and have been working in an organisation that I love for the last 3 years. I love what we do and I find purpose and meaning in my work. I can genuinely say that work is enjoyable for me and something that I’m very passionate about.

I have been studying alongside work for the last 4 years and have completed a post grad in leadership, and am now completing an MSc in Psychology.

I have been doing the same job for the last 3 years and am ready to progress within the organisation. I applied for a promotion during the summer and got as far as the 3rd round interview, but the position was given to a different internal candidate.

There is the potential for more promotional opportunities within the next year, and I am very keen to progress. What can I do to set myself in the best footing to get a promotion? I am getting kind of desperate atm, because the wage I am on is no longer sustainable.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Edit:: Are there any practical things I can do between now and applying for another promoting next year that will set me up for a more successful interview next time?
