Last few sentences in an interview – what do you think?

I was interviewing for an engineer role in the tech industry today. The call seemed to go very well and I was able to provide knowledgeable responses to all of the tech related questions they threw at me – I think honestly my skillset is a drop beyond what the position requires.

At the end they mentioned they had a few more people to interview and they would be in touch later this week. I responded with “Well thank ya’ll for the time. I really hope you consider me for the position as it’s exactly what I’m looking for.” They responded “It was our pleasure, thank you for your time \[name\].” And the call was over.

I’ve never really said anything like that in an interview… On the receiving end does that sound good or does it make me sound desperate?
