Can someone with a background in English and Advertising go into data analysis?

So, I’ve been trying to find a career path that will get me somewhere in life. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Advertising. Most of my experience has either been various light writing jobs with lots of data entry. It got me thinking, could I change course from writing and the like to a path of data analysis?

I’m an effective communicator and a rather analytical thinker. I believe these skills would be critical to data analysis, in conjunction with other skills. So what skills should I learn if I want to go down this route?

Basically, what got me thinking about this is I have a chance to work at a huge company as what they call a “sales assistant.” Mainly, my job is going to be supporting sales efforts with entering various data into things like Excel and Salesforce. Could I use this to gain experience with data and then leverage it to a future in data analysis?

I just wanted to know what you all think about this. All answers are welcome.
