Lied on my CV, got job offer but employer may now find out, what are the chances of me losing the job?

I’ve been self employed for the last year and a half. Before that I was in a job for 8 months but on my CV I put I was there for a year. My new employer has offered me a job and we have both signed the contract but it is conditional on satisfactory references, one of which must be from my previous employer. They have said they will ask to confirm dates worked so they will find out I lied about being in this role longer than I actually had. I know it’s a minor thing but now I’m worrying I will not get the job because of this. What should I do?

This is for a software engineer role in the UK
