I just got laid off, how do I get a job in a different industry?

As the title states I just got laid off this morning. I was working in the mortgage industry so while it’s still a bit jarring, I’m not completely surprised.

As such I updated my resume a few weeks ago and have been applying to jobs on LinkedIn and looking around. Only problem is I definitely want to get out of the mortgage industry and don’t have many technical skills/experience for other industries.

A little background on me: Graduated in 2017 with a major in Advertising and minor in business. Started at doing AD sales at a big online review company then went to a mortgage company to work as a business development specialist. It was less volume sales focused, but still sales in essence. I worked with 4 loan officers to handle their book of business. This meant keeping referral partners and prospecting new ones through cold calls, events and other marketing services. Anyways, department was poorly ran and while getting my ducks in a row to leave the pandemic hit and I was moved to underwriting.

Im creative, smart and can easily adapt. I’m an idea guy with good intuition that can work well with others. I think I would thrive in a client facing role, but again I don’t have industry specific experience outside of mortgage. I think ad agency side is for me although I’m not entirely sure what I want to do. I like the idea of maybe event/production focus. I have some experience with Photoshop (at least PS alternative called PhotoPea) and recently (the last year) started a web developer boot camp online (Java, HTML,CSS).
