Is it ideal to join contract-based jobs at the very beginning of career?

I am a fresher and today I received an offer that’s contract based. I’m in the marketing domain. I’ve never heard of people getting hired on contract. What is your experience hiring/getting hired on contract? Is it ideal to join contract-based job at the very beginning of my career?
