How can I go about asking for a raise?

Ok I’m 19f, and I nanny. I love working with kids and I plan on going to college for me ECE next fall.

But I’m being paid under my area’s minimum wage. It’s $15.75 I’m pretty sure, and I’m being paid $15.00/hr. Most Nanny’s in my area make $20+/hr. I’m definitely not asking for a $5 raise but maybe a $1-3 raise.

But the way I grew up made me to hate asking for things I may deserve. I’m a very anxious person. I hate disappointing people or making them upset. Ik not good for a work place. I’m working on it and that’s why I’m here.

I don’t want to leave this family but I may have too if they take me asking for (literally) the bare minimum pay in a legal sense.

I was for some reason fine with it till last night. When someone asked me on the nanny sub why I’m okay with accepting under minimum wage pay. I didn’t have an answer for them. Idk why I was okay with it. And now I’m not.

This was only supposed to be an under the table pay till December. But I decided to stay with them longer, and I’m going to ask for a contract in the new year.

Any advice on how I could go about this would be greatly appreciated.
