I’m 28F with two kids (age 4 and 11 weeks old).
I have always struggled with being unhappy in my jobs. My partner and I both work from home. He works in IT and just landed a major job that will pay close to six figures, which is a $33k salary increase from his previous job. I make a decent amount (appx $48k before taxes) but I don’t have any degrees or anything. I go back to work from maternity leave this coming Monday, and while I’m super happy for my partner, this massive jump in pay has caused me to reevaluate my ambitions.
I love the idea of going back to school but I don’t know what I would study. My parents couldn’t afford to send me to college, so I took a job out of high school and just kind of bounced from job to job (customer service based, which I tend to hate lol). I’m a massive introvert and I’m pretty sure I have a form of ADD (tried to get tested for it, but the psychologist didn’t take me seriously because he said I got “decent” grades and have been able to hold a job down for more than a year, though I’ve bounced between many in the last 10 years). I would just love to find something I can stick with and make a comparable amount to my partner. He’s been trying to suggest I get into computer science like him. He thinks I’d be good at it and enjoy it, but I don’t know.
Thanks for reading this far. Needed to get this off my chest. Any advice is appreciated as well.
