MicroManager driving me nuts. How to approach?

[ad_1]

Switched companies recently. Was impressed by the interviews and made the move. Great 175 year old company with solid financials, operations, etc.

I’m realizing that I don’t love my manager. They are a micromanager. We are director level project managers tasked with leading a team to complete complicated work. Our org believes in empowering us to make decisions. Even my boss says this a LOT. But my manager isn’t great at releasing some control and allowing us to execute.

It’s different almost every day. Some days they are extremely hands off and very impressed with what we come with, and others it’s micro management to the level of telling us what to write!

My org claims they want us to call them out, see their blind spots, suggest improvements, etc. but my boss is unapproachable and I’m not sure how to go about it.

I really like my coworkers, the team, the org, the company. My bosses boss, and their boss have reached out to me and really like me.

I would love to continue working here long term and I could totally stick this out, but I think I would be happier with a different manager. How have you gone about this before?
