I recently got hired as an engineering manager at a SaaS company with over 100 million users. As a first-time engineering manager, I will start with leading 1-2 teams of 5-6 and hiring 3-4 additional team leads with 4-5 ICs under them. This is my first time leading teams of this size and I have previously only worked with ICs directly, but not leading multiple teams.
What skills should I focus on developing and what resources should I turn to in order to maximize my chances of success in this new role?
What’s the best approach to taking over existing team (where the team leads may have interviewed for my position)?
Are there any specific podcasts that you found to be particularly helpful for new SWE Managers?
