I am a backend developer and my coworker has quit who is a frontend developer and now my boss wants me to do her work what do I do?

So long story short we have a frontend developer for about 6 to 7 years where I work she is no longer there.

I am a backend developer and have been for about 12 years at my current company. I agreed to do 1 project we had in the queue for front end development while they look for another developer.. mind you I have not done frontend development in almost 7 years at this point.

I was also offered no additional salary increase for doing so either. This really rubbed me the wrong way because I’ve been with the company for 12 years. They also begged me to work overtime to complete the project faster which I did and was compensated for the overtime but I am getting super burned out.

So, with that being said while doing this project I realized how much I dislike frontend development and how inefficient I am at doing it since I haven’t done it in 7 years.

What I noticed is my boss has taken on several other major projects that require a frontend developer to be completed and they have yet to hire a new frontend developer or even post a position and I know that for a fact because I am always the one to post the positions on our site.

So I slacked my boss today and told them that I didn’t want to do frontend going forward and now they want to have a conversation.

Do I just draw a line in the sand and say I’m not doing any major frontend development? Or do I just say that I’m inefficient at it and it’s making my own workload behind and making me burned out…I am literally burned out from all the overtime and doing something I hate.
