I am 39F, working in a fun but demanding and declining industry for the last 18 years (118k + db pension). I’ve been offered a good job in the public sector for the same salary, better db pension and more security. I also see the possibility of advancing in the new role, while I will only stay at my current company for max 5 more years for personal reasons.
My current workplace is countering with another job that would be more fun than my current job. I’m considering taking it because it’s an experience I’m unlikely to be offered again. I’m not worried about public sector opportunities going away, but I do wonder if I can get further ahead in the public sector if I take the job now instead of five years from now
