So after a lot of thought, it’s looking more and more likely I’ll be headed back to school in January to pursue a degree in either accounting or software engineering. I graduated in 2019 with a B.A. in journalism/communications, but it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Back then I didn’t know what I wanted from life, I was forced to declare at 19 years old. I just wanted to take the easiest route and hang out with my buddies.
4 years later and I regret it greatly. Now I realize specialized degrees help more. I want to make something of myself. I was never a fit for journalism, I hate talking to people and reporting on other people’s lives. Took me many years to realize it. So I’m going back to get a new bachelors in something I enjoy and that compensates a bit better.
I’m currently 25 but will be 26 when I start and likely wouldn’t be out until I’m 28 if all goes well. I’ll have to quit my full time job. The university will cost \~$35k for the 2 years. I’ve got about $100k saved up from the past few years of working at my job, which I can’t say I’ve enjoyed too much. I still live at home, probably not going to be able to go anywhere.
Any opinions on this? Does this sound stupid or is it worth the risk? Anyone with similar experiences? I don’t enjoy much about my life now, and I feel stuck. Want a change. Any insight is appreciated.
