We recently brought in a junior associate into our valuations team ‘Amy’. I conducted the interview with the VP. She’s a very attractive girl, reminiscent of Angelina Jolie in the mid 2000s. We have had a few conversations at work and she’s a very friendly and approachable woman.
A few days ago, she comes up to me for a chat in the morning while holding a folder. She wanted to know about a particular start-up we were providing capital for and asked me to clear up some things she wasn’t sure of.
After I did, she said “Thank you sailor” and smiled as she walked past me and lightly smacked my ass with the folder. First of all, who the hell calls somebody ‘sailor’ in the office? And second of all, I didn’t really care about this interaction, it was just mild flirting to me. I know some people would have went ballistic but I’m not the type to make a big deal out of it.
Anyway, I’m not sure how to handle it. I’ve never been in this kind of situation. Some people have told me to just forget it but address it if it happens again or if she exhibits similar behaviour to other people and others have said to bring it to her attention immediately. As far as I know, she doesn’t behave like this around anyone else.
I should note that I have no intention of seeing this woman as I keep my professional and personal life seperate.
For anyone who has been in a similar situation, how did you handle it?
