Would you quit if you know you’re getting fired?

So I was employee like #18 at a startup that grew to 170 before layoffs. I was close with the founders and have reported directly into the C-Suite since I started. Had friend beers with founders etc. just trying to give the context.

Anyway we just had an all hands last week the CEO made it seem like there was another layoff on the way and this was confirmed by my friends in the finance dept.

This question also comes now that the CMO (not a founder) the guy I report to now has said that I’m not performing (not to me, ever, but it’s nice to have friends that watch your back). All of this information leads me to believe I am on the chopping block.

So I’m not sure what to do, my heart isn’t it anymore and I definitely want to leave, I want to leave before they fire me because I need to have an exit interview. I need that closure and time to give feedback to the company that I was once so loyal to. If I get fired I won’t have this opportunity and I also feel like I’ll leave on worse terms with founders, and company in general.

I know my brain says hold out until they either lay me off or fire me for the paycheck but my heart wants to beat them to the punch with or without a job lined up.
