How to hand in my notice less than a week after ‘promotion’?

Disclaimer: sorry for any grammar/spelling issues. I’m doing this quickly before I have to get out the door.

I’ve been at my work for a while now, I work from home but my jobs is heavily client facing (I work within local government in the UK). I got put on to a further training programme to progress and that started Tuesday, but I also interviewed for a head office position (reviewing benefits, heavily admin and decision making etc) and they want me to start on April 11th. This role is for the same council as I’m already working in, but different managers and team.

I didn’t know I’d been accepted for this job until today, and I interviewed back in mid-February so I thought I hadn’t got it but turns out, they wanted to hire me and had to pause recruitment while the manager for my future team was off sick for a while.

Now, I suffer pretty bad with anxiety. I’m a huge people pleaser and it’s a flaw of mine. I want to hand in my notice, but I feel sick at the thought as I’ve just been internally ‘promoted’ and given a pay rise. I didn’t let my current manager know I was interviewing, as I genuinely feel it isn’t anyones business and I didn’t want it to interfere with my job if I were unsuccessful.

This career move is the best for me both mentally and financially, there is just this horrible barrier in the way. I just don’t want the anxiety surrounding handing in my notice so soon after this small change in my job to stop me from pursuing this other role which would be way more fulfilling.

So, basically, I’m just looking for some advice.
